Always loud - coming or going -
we could not get rid of them fast enough.
Neither fashionable nor punctual
- unwieldy, spectacular, lumbering -
they ate up all the adornments
that kept us safely disguised
and then would not leave until
the fat lady sang.
I had a fat lady singing too, ha!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a song she sang!
DeleteWhat a perfect ending. (I just saw the fat lady in Stacie's entry too. Great minds...)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marcy! Pleased you think so.
DeleteNicely done Kymm. I really enjoyed this one particularly the bit about eating our disguises. So true!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that. Thank you, Thom!
DeleteAt the risk of duplicating the comment I tried to post a moment ago, I must say I love this. So brilliant, title to finish.
ReplyDeleteNo duplication (tho I admit I might not have minded!). Thanks for the love, Jennifer, you are very kind!
Delete"they ate up all the adornments" --what a great line. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked it. To me, that's what elephants end up doing if you don't shoo them off. Pluck away at your mask.
DeleteThank you, Jen!
Your opening lines set up such a picture. I think I'd like to see this opera company - sometimes we need to come out from behind our adornments.
ReplyDeleteAh, glad they hooked you. Thank you, Sarah Ann! No, I do not believe you would like to see this opera company.
DeleteLeaving the adornments behind, that's exactly how to avoid the stampede... lol
Oh, thanks for the love, Renada! Yeah, I was stumped for a while on how to approach it. Poetry helps : )
ReplyDeleteI'm going to repeat what many others have said but I, too, very much liked the title and the adornments line...and of course, the fat lady singing. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do not mind the repetition. Thank you so much, SL!
DeleteThat would be an interesting opera!
ReplyDeleteHehe What I have in mind is very operatic, Tina!
