Despite all her trepidation, the jump was exhilarating; a shock of water that tugged at her, pulling her down. She let herself sink. When she did kick out, her ankle met an unmoored figurehead, perhaps, adrift in the undercurrent of the creek.

Well, you 'hope' it is an unmoved figurehead...this was terrific!
ReplyDeleteExactly!! Thanks, Tina : )
DeleteYes, that's what I hope too, otherwise, this would be an excellent opening scene for an episode of "NCIS" !
ReplyDeleteHehe I was way before my time, then, as I used to think this when I was a kid watching Columbo : )
DeleteThank you FF!
A great "creepy" factor in this piece. Makes me want to stay away from creeks and rivers.
ReplyDeleteAlways a good idea in my book, Tara! Thank you!
DeleteOooooooh! Creepy indeed! Perfect for this week, kymm!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, nice, Gina, glad you think so. Thank you!
DeleteThis is perfect, Kymm! Well written and creepy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rachna!! So happy to hear that : )
DeleteYikes! Wicked good writing, Kymm.
ReplyDeleteWicked good comment, Susan!! Thank you!
DeleteEeek. This is actually one of my biggest nightmares: bumping into something unknown while swimming. *shudder*
ReplyDeleteYup, always made me climb out quickly from murky water - hehe.
DeleteThanks for the eeek and the shudder, Christine!
Beautiful imagery as ever. I'm left wondering where that figurehead has floated from (and, because I'm too literal, that her toes must be throbbing.)
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you for that, Sarah Ann!
DeleteWe're not going to think about the 'figurehead' anymore, and her toes were cringing, not throbbing. He he he .
My lake or ocean swimming loving career ended with jaws. lol This is shudder-rrific.
ReplyDeleteHaha I thank you kindly for that, Jen!
DeleteJaws was too close for comfort for me!
What an interesting image - an unmoored figurehead floating near the bottom of the creek. Quite a detail to bring us to, Kymm!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Thanks Nate! You stick with that image : )
